When it comes to deciding the travel dates, there are two main aspects our patients typically keep in mind:
- The weather or season of departure or arrival country
In Colombia, the weather is not really an issue. It is a non-seasonal country that shows an almost stable temperature throughout the year, one you may travel to any time of the year for plastic surgery. Cold, warm, or hot weather that you may experience will depend on the topography of the chosen city and not on the time of year.
On the other hand, Canada and USA are seasonal countries and each of them has its pros and cons regarding post-operatory. For example, some patients will hate to go through their recovery process during the summer. They would find it uncomfortable to wear post-operative compression garments and sweat under the intense summer heat, or to miss out on social events during the most vacation time of the year [3].
- Available days off in the year
Just as there are people who can decide when to take their vacation, there are others who must juggle around the official holidays or days off that their jobs allow them to choose their surgery dates. So you better check your schedule and verify the availability of these days before scheduling your surgery.

FAVORITE MONTHS TO TRAVEL FOR PLASTIC SURGERY
NOVEMBER TO JANUARY
These months are very attractive to many patients for several reasons. For instance, it allows them to escape from the winter cold to more friendly weather, traveling to a country like Colombia, where the sun shines more often. Plus, during this time of the year, many holidays such as Thanksgiving Day may be used as an excuse to take some days off and to travel.
Additionally, when patients return home, they’ll be less exposed to sunlight, which is great for helping a fast healing. Besides, they have less discomfort from friction or overheating using post-surgical compression garments in cold winter temperatures.
If you carefully think about it, this is a time of the year that prepares you to look your best when the summer arrives. By June and July, from 5 to 7 months will have passed and your results will be almost at their end point.
MARCH AND APRIL
This is another popular season among plastic surgery patients. On one hand, spring break may be used as an excuse, just the same as Thanksgiving’s example, to take a couple of days off. On the other hand, the spring-like weather of the season will be much more delightful than others during the recovery process. [3]
